Two of the biggest airlines in the world, Emirates SkyCargo and United Cargo, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), following the announcement of a new, historic commercial arrangement. The airlines claim these coordinated operations will immensely benefit their air freight customers globally.

Jan Krems, President of United Cargo, and Nabil Sultan, Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo, Emirates, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the World Cargo Symposium (WCS) – IATA event in London, UK.

“Emirates SkyCargo is committed to being the leading player in the global air cargo industry providing our customers with the highest standards of products and services. Cooperating with United, who is a leading airline in its own right with strengths and a network that are complementary to our own, will allow us to add value for our customers and help them reach new markets more speedily,” – Nabil Sultan, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo.

In accordance with the conditions of the MoU, Emirates SkyCargo and United Cargo will operate jointly on a myriad of issues, such as increasing the options for cargo interlines and blocked space arrangements, subject to regulatory permissions.

By combining their networks globally, the two air cargo operators will be able to expand their current cargo interline agreements and give freight clients access to more capacity. This provides both carriers’ customers with increased worldwide reach for moving freight from key manufacturing markets to consuming markets.

“United is pleased to work with Emirates SkyCargo on this MoU. As one of the leading carriers worldwide, Emirates SkyCargo is an important player in the industry, and our supplementary capabilities allow us to provide new service offerings to our customers worldwide. We share a common commitment to providing industry-leading solutions for our customers and we look forward to working together in the future.” – Jan Krems, President, United Cargo

Emirates SkyCargo will have access to over 200 US cities and 300 cities on five continents through United Cargo, while United Cargo will have access to the belly-freight of Emirates passenger flights to over 100 international destinations and 11 freighters.

Emirates SkyCargo established in 1985, is the airfreight division of Emirates, based in UAE. They distribute freight to more than 300+ locations through Emirates SkyCentral, its cutting-edge hub at Dubai International Airport. They connect it to a global network across 80 countries covering six continents. The air cargo company provides cargo capacity on its current fleet of wide-body Boeing 777, Airbus A380, and 11 B777-F freighters.

On September 23, Emirates won three honours at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2022, including World’s Best Economy Class, World’s Best Economy Class Catering, and World’s Best Inflight Entertainment for the 17th time in a row.

United Cargo is the airfreight division operated by United Airlines and United Express. It provides business-friendly service by utilizing the cargo capacity of the world’s most extensive route network, which includes almost 4,500 flights per day to 339 airports.

United Cargo transports customers’ shipments to and from virtually any city in the world, through their U.S. hubs in Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York/Newark, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C., as well as enhanced service to and from Asia and Australia, Europe, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.
